Superbude St. Pauli in Hamburg: economically and environmentally sustainable hostel and hotel.
Hamburg, the city of fun, of the big publishing houses and of Architecture with a capital A, is also a city of trendsetting hotels. Superbude St. Pauli is the second hostel and budget hotel in the seaside city, welcoming guests with a view to environmental and economic sustainability.

After the first Superbude, in an old printing press in Hamburg, hotel operator Kai Hollmann has opened a second one within the walls of an listed Expressionist brick building constructed in 1926 which formerly housed the telecommunications office.

Its location near the Schanzenviertel district makes it easy for guests to get to the trendiest spots and the city centre.

The renovated, redeveloped interior offers a fresh new blend between historic walls, simple interiors and design objects combined with recycling and upcycling solutions, designed by 3Meta, an interdisciplinary network of creatives. For example, the tables are made from the wooden cores of big cable reels, for the guest room furniture have been used yellow formwork panels and scaffolding tubes, and the bedheads are safety nets.

The hotel’s 89 rooms can accommodate up to 228 guests: from beds for backpackers to double rooms and spaces for 6 people, each with its own bathroom. The walls are decorated with local newspapers from the golden age of St. Pauli and quotes by bloggers and reporters.

One detail worth noting: the “Rockstar-Suite” with its 6 beds, ideal for a group of friends, also has a little stage for a rock band.

Buffet breakfast is served in the Kitchen Club. Everything is very simple, with an emphasis on quality products and the lifestyle of the traveller of the third millennium.
